Saint Patrick’s Day Festival returns to Fort Street Mall
The Saint Patrick’s Day Festival will offer Irish music, food, and drink on Fort Street Mall between King and Hotel street, on Saint Patrick’s Day, Tuesday, March 17, from 4pm till 10pm. On St. Patrick’s Day in 1988, Events International created the street festival on Nu’uanu Avenue that became the place to be for the wearing of the green. It was a yearly tradition until 2020, when the event didn’t happen due to COVID, and it hasn’t happened since. Events International and the Fort Street Mall Business Improvement District are pleased to bring this beloved, free to the public, event back to the community, this year on Fort Street Mall sponsored by Jamesons, -196, and Pickles at Forte.
As in the past, there will be Irish music on two stages, pop up performances by the Celtic Pipes and Drums of Hawaii and other roving musicians, and a great array of Irish food and drink. There will be 10 food vendors selling Irish delicacies such as oysters, corned beef and cabbage, fish and chips, and bangers and mash. An indoor dining hall will be set up at Pickles at Forte, adjoining the mall. Bars on the mall will be selling Irish beer and spirits including Jamesons and Guinness. Musical acts will include Doolin Rakes, Peter Bond and the Whatevers, 7 Pairs of Iron Shoes and the Heartlanders.
“In our effort to revitalize the downtown neighborhood, We have been producing smaller scale events on the Mall,” Said Ed Korbyski, Executive Director of The Fort Street Business Improvement District. “With this event we are looking to up our game and bring back iconic events of the past.”
“The community has wanted a return of this festival and we are extremely pleased to provide it,” said Rick Schneider, CEO of Events International. “It brings us back to our roots and we hope to develop other large festivals for the community in the future on the Mall.”
Fort Street Mall offers a site that will allow for events such as these to be produced without street closures. It will be less disruptive and more welcoming than street parties of the past.
